PhoneCam at TRIGION, Dutch Largest Security Company

PhoneCam Visits Trigion to Explore the Future of Security and Live Support

PhoneCam was invited to present its technology at the headquarters of Trigion, the Netherlands’ largest security provider, during an innovation event organised together with InnovationQuarter. The event brought together five innovative companies to explore new technologies and their potential applications in security and safety.

Last Thursday, PhoneCam had the opportunity to visit Trigion’s headquarters in Schiedam for an inspiring afternoon dedicated to innovation in security.

Together with InnovationQuarter, Trigion welcomed five innovative companies β€” PhoneCam, Polarix Data, The Barn, RadioSense and Tective Robotics β€” to present their solutions and explore how emerging technologies could contribute to the future of security services.

Beyond traditional body cameras

During the event, we presented PhoneCam’s approach to personal safety and live support.

Unlike traditional body cameras, which primarily focus on recording incidents, PhoneCam enables a connection between people in the field and those who can assist them remotely. Our compact camera allows users to trigger direct an alarm and share live video, audio and location when support is needed.

This creates opportunities for security professionals and theri control rooms to receive assistance in real time, helping them respond to situations with greater awareness and confidence.

From innovation to practical application

Following the presentations, Trigion opened the doors of its control room, giving the participating companies a valuable look behind the scenes. The afternoon continued with discussion sessions involving Trigion colleagues, focusing on potential applications and the practical value of the technologies presented.

For PhoneCam, these conversations are particularly valuable. Technology only creates real impact when it addresses actual needs in the field and fits into the daily work of the people who use it.

Engaging directly with security professionals helps us better understand operational challenges and identify opportunities to make live support more accessible, effective and practical.

Building safer working environments together

We believe innovation in security should go beyond documenting what happens. By connecting people in the field with immediate support, technology can play an important role in improving personal safety and helping professionals do their jobs with greater confidence.

We would like to thank Trigion and InnovationQuarter for the invitation, the warm welcome and the opportunity to exchange ideas with the participating companies and Trigions team.

We look forward to continuing the conversation about how PhoneCam can contribute to the future of security and live support.

PhoneCam on AIR with BNR Zakendoen

PhoneCam on BNR Zakendoen: Live Support, Privacy and the Future of Personal Safety

PhoneCam co-founder and CEO Kaspar Scheltema joined Thomas van Zijl on BNR Zakendoen to pitch the company’s ambition and discuss how compact camera technology can make people safer and provide direct support.

It was a pleasure to join Thomas van Zijl on Zakendoen, the business programme on Dutch radio station BNR, for an engaging conversation about PhoneCam, our technology and our ambitions for the future.

The programme started with a short pitch in which I introduced PhoneCam and explained our mission: to make help directly accessible through a small camera connected to a smartphone. Unlike traditional body cameras, which are primarily designed to record events, PhoneCam focuses on enabling people to receive live support when they need it.

Following the pitch, we had an interesting discussion about the technology, its practical applications and some of the important questions surrounding the use of wearable cameras.

Privacy by design: transparency and control

Privacy was an important topic during the conversation. Wearable cameras raise questions about when recording takes place, who can see the footage and how users can maintain control.

I had the opportunity to explain how PhoneCam addresses these concerns. A clear LED indicator shows when the camera is active, making its status visible to people nearby. The camera is designed to be used when necessary, rather than recording continuously in the background and the recordings are saved secure locally.

From professional applications to consumer safety

PhoneCam was launched in 2025 and has since gained experience through more than 50 customers and pilot projects. Building on this professional foundation, we are now developing a consumer version designed to make the technology accessible to a much wider audience.

One important application is support for people who are blind or have low vision. By combining live camera and audio input with AI, we aim to help users better understand their surroundings and access useful information while on the move. Potential applications include reading text, describing surroundings and answering questions about what the camera sees. Our ambition is to help people navigate everyday situations with greater confidence, independence and freedom.

To advance these capabilities, we are receiving development support from Google. This support helps us explore how AI can be applied to real time on multiple devices. Our goal is to combine compact, easy-to-use hardware with intelligent software that provides practical assistance when it matters most.

One technology, a wider impact

The conversation with Thomas van Zijl was a great opportunity to share both the progress we have made and the direction in which we are heading.

From professional safety and field support to consumer applications and accessibility, our vision remains the same: technology should not only help document what happens, but also help people when they need it.

We would like to thank Thomas van Zijl and BNR Zakendoen for the engaging conversation and the opportunity to share the PhoneCam story.

Privacy by Design: Resonsible Body Camera use for Professional Teams

Bodyworn cameras like PhoneCam are becoming increasingly common across professional sectors such as private security, healthcare, maintenance, utilities, public transport and field services. Organizations deploy them to improve employee safety, document incidents and increase accountability.

However, successful implementation involves more than technology alone. Privacy considerations play a critical role in employee acceptance, regulatory compliance, and public trust. That is why PhoneCam has been designed according to Privacy by Design principles, helping organizations balance safety and privacy from the outset. For more details see also our privacy policy.

Best Practice Guidance for Organisations

To ensure privacy-compliant acording to the EDPB and GDPR guidelines for deployment of body cameras, organizations should:

βœ… Review policies and procedures regularly to ensure ongoing compliance.

βœ… Conduct a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) before deployment.

βœ… Define clear retention periods and deletion procedures.

βœ… Communicate transparently with employees and other stakeholders regarding purpose & use of body cameras.

Take away

Professional body cameras can significantly enhance worker safety, accountability, and incident documentation.
